Just few minutes ago, Google Instant went live. This new service by Google displays real-time search results as you type. No, this is not the same as displaying feeds from Twitter or Facebook but rather a complete chunk of search-results will be displayed as you type. This feature was speculated when Google tried to send out mysterious messages with different Google Doodles since last two days. And finally, the result is now before our eyes. Although I didn’t expect this to happen so soon

When I tried to search using the regular Google.com site, Google Instant was activated by default. In case, it doesn’t work for you, go to http://google.com/instant. We will post more updates about the feature soon.

Ok I am still not sure whether this is authentic or not but it surely is exciting. A video showing the new user interface of the much anticipated Internet Explorer 9 has surfaced the Internet. To believe the video’s description, it is an actual IE9 Beta installation.

Just a few weeks ago, a leaked screenshot of IE9 created stir across the interwebs, specially among Microsoft fans. Now that the official Beta release is just around the corner, one needs a very strong reason to prove this video as fake. Have a look:

Last month, India’s IT Minister, Kapil Sibal demonstrated the country’s very own Android based tablet ‘Shakshat’ priced at a mere $35 (1600 approx.). Recent news is coming in that HCL Technologies have been given the contract by the Indian Government to manufacture 100,000 units of these low-cost tablets to be readied before January 10, 2011, the official launch date decided by the government.

Although HCL Technologies have earned their fame in the sub-continent for the most part, the quality of devices has not yet impressed major user base. But looking at the sole purpose of the Indian government to uplift the rural academical institutions by providing latest technologies at low cost, little quality was bound to be compromised.

But then again, it is a 30 crore project and the tablet looks decent enough in the hands-on demo by Kapil Sibal (video below). Now some basic tech-specs of Sakshat:

• It will be available in 3 versions (5 inch, 7 inch and 9 inch) with only the 7 inch version available in the first phase.
• Android OS
• 2 GB RAM
• Wi-Fi
• Camera
• USB port
• 2 Watt power system (for efficient performance in areas with poor electricity supply).
• Pre-installed apps like media player, internet browser, PDF reader, etc.

As Windows Phone 7 launch date is approaching near, more and more information about this mobile OS by Microsoft is surfacing the net. Today we have some nice demo videos of some apps running on Windows Phone 7.

Chrome 6 has been released with some great new features like form autofill, Extension Sync, support for WebM videos and (bet you didn’t know this) a built-in PDF viewer! Yes, it does mean a lot to serious professionals. But it’s not enabled by default. So here’s how you get it working:

In the address-bar, type ‘chrome://plugins/‘ and press ‘Enter’.

Here, simply click ‘Enable’ link in the Chrome PDF Viewer entry.

With the new default PDF viewer, it’s now irrelevant to have an Adobe Reader installed on your computer for viewing PDF files online.

Canonical has consistently released a major Ubuntu iteration every 6 months. The last stable release, Ubuntu 10.04 ‘Lucid Lynx’, was released in April and that makes a new version due in October. Ubuntu 10.10 ‘Maverick Meerkat’ is currently in the final stages of development with a beta version already available for a try-out.

Along with Ubuntu 10.10, its derivatives are also in their Beta and are available for download.

It’s not much of a happy news for Firefox fans that Mozilla has decided to remove atleast one (or more) of the promised features from the final version of Firefox 4 scheduled to be released by the end of this year.

Mozilla developers said that in order to meet the deadline, some features planned for Firefox 4 need to be removed. These features include the new account manager which was introduced in April this year, the Inspector, the web-console and some misc features for the Windows platform. However, things may change by a few degrees here or there as the final feature freeze is due next week, September 10 to be precise.

On a happier note, Google Chrome turned 2 today and for a browser that young, it’s ground breaking to evolve to a 17% foot print in market share [Aug 2010]. Moreover, Google released version 6 of the browser today with security fixes and performance boosts. Download Google Chrome 6 now!

In the latest Apple Event, the completely new avatars of iPod nano and iPod shuffle have been announced. The redesigned iPod nano now boasts multi-touch and a super light and sexy square design. The camera has been done away with for good. On the other hand, iPod shuffle is now refurbished with buttons (yes, they’re back) and a longer battery that claims to last upto 15 hrs.

It’s an established fact that Facebook doesn’t give a **** about your privacy and for all these years it has just gotten bad to worse. That’s when 4 computer science grads from NYU decided to roll up their sleeves to create an anti-Facebook project from scratch. Called ‘Diaspora*‘, the project is actually an open-source, server-less, personally controlled and de-centralized social network aiming to provide users full control of their privacy.

Diaspora* connects user computers directly, just like the Torrent protocol does. This eliminates the need of a centralized server which implies that none of your private information is stored on a third server. The user is required to install the Diaspora software and has full control of what information to share.

Diaspora*’s modus operendi looks promising but all rests on whether or not the mass switches to the secured and open-source social network.

DEFINITION OF 3G :

3G or 3rd generation is a collection of standards for wireless, mobile communication. The 3G is called International Mobile Telecommunication-2000 (IMT-2000) whose specifications are given by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The services are to be such that they satisfy and fulfill the specifications given by the ITU.

HOW IS 3G BETTER :

The 3G is an up-gradation of 2G and 2.5G standards. It includes technologies like UMTS, CDMA2000, WiMAX, etc. Compared to the older 2G technology, the 3G technology has the following enhancements :

·    Allows simultaneous speech and data services.
·    Provides peak data rates of at least 200 kbit/s.

The data transfer rate for 3G networks is between 128 and 144 kbit/s when the device used is in fast motion and the transfer rate is 384 kbit/s for walking users. For fixed wireless LANs, the rate goes beyond 2 Mbit/s.

Security :

    3G networks offers great security when compared to 2G predecessors. They use the KASUMI block crypto. It provides end-to-end security when application frameworks are accessed.

USING 3G :

The primary thing required for using the 3G technology is a device that is 3G compatible. The device that is 3G compatible is connected to 3G network through its SIM card and therefore its connected to the Internet all over provider’s range which is unlike Wi-Fi for which there is a limited range.
