How to remove chat history from Skype

How to remove chat history from Skype I have started using Skype (an instant messenger + video chat client) for not so long and am trying to get familiar with the interface. One thing I noticed is that, Skype saves your chat history by default and also logs you in automatically by default. This can get rough if you have many users for the same computer. So, here’s how you remove the chat history from Skype.

1) Start and login to Skype.

2) Click on ‘Tools’ >> ‘Options’.

3) In the window that appears, click on ‘Privacy’ option in the left pane.

4) In the right pane, click ‘Show advanced options’ button.

5) Here, under the ‘Keep history for’ label, you will find options for how long you want to keep your chat history. By setting it to ‘no history’, it won’t save chat conversations from now on. Click the ‘Clear History’ button to erase the chat conversation saved until now.

Done!

Windows 7: Fix BSOD crash after latest Windows updateLot of users have been facing this including me. If you have turned on automatic updates on Windows 7 then recently you might have gone through a head-aching BSOD problem which occur right after start up. Possibilities are that you also must be using Kaspersky Antivirus on Windows 7 which is a reason of conflict with the latest Windows 7 update. The solution is simple.

1) Start your computer and tap F8 key until you get the menu from where you can select boot options. Select ‘Safe Mode’.

2) Once booted, click ‘Start’ button and start typing ‘msconfig’ and hit ‘Enter’. A utility will open up.

3) Click the ‘Startup’ tab and disable all entries that correspond to Kaspersky Antivirus. Close the ‘msconfig’ utility. Restart normally.

4) To avoid conflicts, de-install Kaspersky and install any other antivirus. Alternatively, you can set Kaspersky not to launch at start-up.

Windows 7 build 7057: Fix desktop.ini popping upMany of you have experienced this. You install your oven fresh new Windows 7 build you just ‘got’ and you are amazed by its ever changing features and ease of use that get better with every new build. But on the other hand, you also get annoyed by that new bug which never existed in previous versions. Windows 7 is currently in the RC build so we can still let go some minor bugs. :)

Now the bug is that every time you boot Windows 7, you are welcomed with this awful desktop.ini file opened in a notepad. Quite frustrating when this happens everytime. Here’s a quick fix.

Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete desktop.ini

Navigate to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and delete desktop.ini if present.

Windows 7 Beta 1: Fix subtitle issue while playing moviesIf you have been using K-Lite Codec Packs for a while now on Windows XP/Vista, then you know that the subtitle of a video gets loaded automatically when you open that video (provided the video and the subtitle file have the same name and they are in the same folder). But in Windows 7, the subtitles do not load automatically. So, if you are a subtitle freak, just as me, and want those subtitles to get loaded in Media Player Classic (bundled with K-Lite Codec Pack), then apply the following tweak:

Open Media Player Classic. Click ‘View’ > ‘Options’.

In the left pane, click ‘External Filters’. Now in the right pane, click ‘Add Filters’.

Drag the horizontal slider a bit to find ‘DirectVobSub (auto-load version)’. Select it and click ‘OK’.

Now out of the three radio buttons on the extreme right, select ‘Prefer’ radio button. Click ‘OK’.

That’s it. Now you can enjoy your favorite movie with subtitles as before.

Windows 7 Beta 1: Solve gadgets problemThis is not actually a bug. It is just administrator-level rights mash up. What happens is when you deactivate UAC, the gadgets on your desktop stop working. Without wasting time, here’s a quick solution:

Open Registry Editor (regedit in the Run dialog box). Navigate to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Setting”

Create new DWORD value in the right pane and name it ‘AllowElevatedProcess’ and set its value to 1.

Done! Your gadgets should work fine with UAC disabled.
