This seems out-of the blue but Google has suddenly decided to stop sales of Nexus One to general public. For developers however, Andriod developers specifically, it’s not the case. In the latest announcement, Google Nexus One blog declared Google’s decision, albeit without any justifications.
Earlier this year, we announced that we will be closing the Nexus One web store. This week we received our last shipment of Nexus One phones. Once we sell these devices, the Nexus One will no longer be available online from Google. Customer support will still be available for current Nexus One customers. And Nexus One will continue to be sold by partners including Vodafone in Europe, KT in Korea, and possibly others based on local market conditions.
If you can’t read the fine line, I have bolded a word – Online. Nexus One won’t be available from the online store. It’s yet not clear whether Google has ALSO shut the offilne doors.
Looking at the brighter side, Andriod developers still have access to the device and can still purchase it via the Andriod Market Publisher website. This means that Nexus One is obviously not dead and there is nothing to speculate. One might argue that some serious flaw in the device would have made Google take the step but then, Google would have also declared a re-call programme for devices already sold. It clearly cannot be the case that Google wants to graciously step out the mobile handset and hardware industry but as of now, unless you are an Android developer, you are not getting the Nexus One from the online store.
