Firefox 4 Beta 1 in next few weeks; App Tab, Tabs on top, no status bar & more

Firefox 4 has been around in the news for quite a long time and personally speaking, it’s getting on my nerves that we are not yet able to get the taste of it. However, the first Beta of Firefox 4 is expected to roll out in the next couple of weeks bringing some serious UI makeover and great under-the-hood performance enhancements.

Significant visible changes will be seen in Windows, Mac and Linux versions of Firefox 4. The ‘Firefox button’ will consist all menu options, making room for tabs which will now be placed on top as a default setting (Don’t worry, it’s just a default setting and can be changed by the user). Here’s a video explaining why ‘Tabs On Top’ is a better option:

A fully customizable tab bar, a new bookmarks button, the status bar replaced by a temporary status bar and a dedicated movable toolbar for the extension icons are some other features to look out for. The App Tab feature can loosely be compared with the ‘Pin Tab’ feature of Google Chrome but here, it won’t be having a navigation interface as the content of the App Tabs will more likely to be an application or online document editor.

As mentioned above, the Firefox 4 Beta 1 is expected to be around in a few weeks and the final release by 2010 end.
