How to: Add / update Facebook Fan Page from Tweetdeck

April 6, 2010 7:30 am by Jal

I love Tweetdeck. Everything about Tweetdeck is simply amazing. Now that they have incorporated Facebook and LinkedIn to it, it’s even more of a one-stop shop for social networking. If you have been our frequent visitor then you might be aware of our new Facebook Fan Page. It’s just been out from oven and I wish to keep it regularly updated. So I have added the TechExplorer FB Fan Page to Tweetdeck so that I can easily post an update for our FB fans. Here’s how ‘you’ can add and update ‘your’ FB Fan Page via Tweetdeck.

1) Open Tweetdeck and click the small + icon at the top. This will open the settings panel.

Tweetdeck settings button

2) Then click the small [+] icon to add a module.

3) Now, if you have already added your Facebook account, it will show up in the ‘Account List’. If not, then first add your Facebook account. Then, select ‘Facebook’ from the list and click the ‘Add Pages’ button at the bottom.

4) Then you will be prompted to login to your Facebook account and authorize Tweetdeck to publish updates.

Authorize Tweetdeck at Facebook

5) Once you do that, you will see your Facebook page listed in Tweetdeck. Check mark ‘Show update in panel?’ and save settings.

6) Now to update your Facebook Fan page, open ‘Compose Update’ box, click it’s button to highlight it and make an update.

I have two active pages for Facebook but no button to add more. I want to delete one of the pages and add a couple of others but can't find the tools to do that in TweetDeck. Tried removing Facebook and re-adding it. The two pages appeared immediately, but not Add/remove page buttons. I am using Chrome on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8. Any ideas? [email protected]

@Teresa Thanks a lot...

it works for me. It seens tweetdeck isn´t compatible yet with the Facebook secure login.

Hello gorgeous people! Sorry but i think i have sussed this!!! The below message was sent to me through facebook.....

ATTENTION! While on FB, look at your URL address (the very top box on your screen.) If you see "http:" instead of "https:" then you DO NOT have a secure session and can be hacked. Go to Account - Account Settings - Account Security - click Change. Check box (secure browsing), click Save. FB has automatically set it on the non-secure setting! Change, Copy & Re-post.

I of course followed this and changed my settings as above!!
I have had the same troubles as you for ages now, trying to get my fb page on tweetdeck....so i reversed what i did above and it has worked!!! im finally connected to my page! So sheck your facebook URL!! If it has HTTPS at the top, it wont work!!

Sorry, im just so chuffed mine is working now!!

agreed @ R Kinney. I still can't seem to connect my fanpage for my business!

Great Info .. thanks.. now if we could only get that Fan Page Column support!

I disconnected facebook from tweetdeck. then i added it back in and it connected fine, but when I get to step 3 above, "add pages" it goes through two things (connect to facebook, connect to social network) then the little window closes and doesn't list any pages. etc. i have the newest version of tweetdeck and i have the updated pages in facebook. please help.

Oh yes you are right. I just double checked it. I have notified Tweetdeck's team about the issue. Hope they roll out an update soon.

Having the same problem as Maria. Facebook is connected fine, but when I try to add a Page, a black box opens up briefly, then disappears. I still don't have the ability to post from one of my pages.

My Facebook account connected no problem, but when I get to step 3 and click 'add pages' it connects and then does not display the pages I administrate. Is this b/c they are the 'upgraded' FB pages? I'd love to post from Tweedeck directly to at least one of my pages.

I am using the newer version of my Facebook page and I see it in Tweetdeck without any problems. Have you updated Tweetdeck to the latest version? (currently, mine is 0.37.5) Try again. Hope it works.

I have the same issue as Allycurtis and am using 0.37.5. Tried the TweetDeck Support tip to cancel Tweetdeck access from facebook settings, then reinstall, but to no avail. Still can't see my pages. Also checked both personal account and page settings to see if I had some extra privacy layer hiding my status as an admin, but couldn't find any settings related to this. Suggestions anyone?

Yes, I have notified the team. Hope they roll out an update soon.

Hi Jal

Thanks for your advice - v helpful but I still can't get my Facebook page (not profile) to appear in the column and I followed the filter options as you mentioned.

Any ideas?

Thanks! :)

Tweetdeck has recently updated to a newer version. Update it and try the same again. Hope it works.

can i see if someone posted something on my fanpage ? or made a comment on any picture on my fan page ?

Thanks.

Yes. but the feature is not so comfortable to use.

When I click ADD NEW ACCOUNT in TweetDeck, then the FACEBOOK button, a Facebook Authorization box opens, but nothing happens. What can I do to add fb to my TweetDeck account?

Looks like your internet connection is having some problems. Try logging in to Facebook from your default browser and then try adding FB account to Tweetdeck. This way you won't have to login again to facebook and you can directly 'Allow' Tweetdeck to connect with Facebook.

thank you! it works great!

Hi - do you know how I set the column to only show activity from the fanpage? At the moment I only get updates from me as the administrator and what I really want it to know when people are interacting through the fanpage...

Hi Emily, although there is no such feature to just show the Fanpage column but you can achieve the same by using the following trick.

First add your Facebook Full News Feed column. Then you'll notice 5 small buttons at the bottom, the third one of which is the 'Filter this column' button. Click it to open filter options. In the first box, select 'Name', second box '+', and in the third box, write the name of your Facebook fanpage. Now the column will display only your Facebook fan page entries and you can also see the number of 'likes' and comments.

Ofcourse, for further control and options, we'll have to wait for official Fanpage support from Tweetdeck.

GREAT blog... totally worked for my business status/tweet updates

I did that, but still the only FB column is my personal one. I get updates from my page there (because I'm a fan), but no separate column...

hey, you mean "only fanpage column"?? No. it won't be there. We have linked your Page to Tweetdeck. So while you update status, you will see your fanpage option 'added' over there. You just have to write status and update your fanpage. You can't actually have a different column just for your Fanpage.

This is great for posting from TweetDeck, but the column doesn't show up (unless I'm missing something?) Maybe in the next TweetDeck version...

Aah.. I think you might not have added the Facebook 'Full News Feed' column. To do that, click the '+' icon on top, then in the window that appears, click that small Facebook icon. Now below in the 'Add column' section, add 'Full News Feed' > 'Everyone'. Then Save settings. This will show up the column.. cheers!
