Google Maps adds Biking Directions

Getting directions using Google Maps is getting simpler with the addition of small but very useful features. Till now, users could get directions from place A to place B based on three different modes of travel – By car, By public transit and By walking. To facilitate bikers and cyclers, Google added one more option to the list – Bicycling.

For those skeptical, let me tell you that each of these modes are way different from each other. For example, if you choose the ‘By car’ mode, Google Maps will plot out the trails excluding small roads and lanes which are other-wise given more priorities when you select the ‘Walking’ mode.

The official Google blog points out that the Bicycling mode avoids steep hilly areas and also the busy city intersections. Like all the other modes, the Bicycle mode, too, is extremely modifiable. You just need to click and drag on the path trail from where you wish to modify your path.
