Will you buy an iPad or the ExoPC Slate? One-to-one comparison

Jan 27 was the day when iPad happened and shortly after we caught a glimpse of it’s look-alike on a French company’s website – The ExoPC Slate and this is what it looks like:

Too much of resemblance to the iPad eh! Even we think so. Now here’s the interesting part. It just doesn’t look as awesome as the iPad, it even claims to perform as good as (if not better) than it. We’ve got the specs of the ExoPC Slate and would love to have a one on one with Apple’s iPad.

The ExoPC Slate surely does have some strong features to put one into a dilemma, like the Windows 7 OS, the webcam, SIM Port, 2 GB RAM, USB ports and not to forget the widescreen experience. Both iPad and the ExoPC Slate will be out roughly at the same time.

So finally it narrows down to what you feel about the ExoPC Slate. Do you think it can give a tough fight to Apple iPad?

So ipad or not? Im tempted, but not quite. The limitations mentioned are pretty significant. I'll wait for more widespread HTML5 adoption, multi-tasking, the next wave of apps and a webcam. Great review though, surprisingly balanced.

the real specs of the exopc are completely different: the display is 11.6" (not 8.9"), the thickness is 0.55" (not 0.82"), the resolution of the HD ready touchscreen is 1366 x 768 (not 1024 x 600), the storage is even 64 gb (not only 32), the battery life is more than 5 houres (not 4), there is the accellerometer and the price of the 32 gb version is about 550 $. this makes it a little bit different.

Thank you for the info. This article was written based upon the data available as on 1st Feb, 2010. Now I have checked the same site again and the specs have changed. I have updated the post. Thanks again.

slate rules in functionality and iPad is dominant in,...well, fun. with all the apps it will have and the accelerometer. keep in mind that slates price is supposed to be much lower than the one in the table (I've seen $599). my biggest thing is the browser. the exo will support online flash so you can play most online games and videos you're gonna have to download any games you want from the app store on the iPad. And those aren't free.

slates storage, ports, webcam, and price far outweigh the few advantages Apple has: 3g, battery, and sensors.

So, for this version slate is the CLEAR choice. But I wouldn't be surprised if Apple takes over the genre with it's generation 2 iPad pretty soon.

nice presentations .. keep up the gud work

such products like exopc slate can grab the market only temporarily. I am sure Apple will release a superset of iPad in a few months packed with cam and all.. then we'll see what happens to exopc LOL

I agree with Rob to an extent. We've seen it happen with the iPhone. I'm sure one can hardly deny a new version of iPad coming in a few months.

God damnit! I'd say if you want a full fledged PC like experience on-the-go, ExoPC surely rockzz! connectivity in iPad is pathetic and restricted.
