We have heard lots about the upcoming USB 3.0 [What’s USB 3.0?] which is much more efficient than the prevailing USB 2.0 standards, providing transfer rates roughly around 4 Gbit/s. It was only about time the computer manufacturers incorporate the new technology in desktops and laptops. Well, the wait gradually seems to get over. HP announced today that it will start shipping select models of their laptops equipped with USB 3.0.

Despite Intel’s sceptical announcement not to support USB 3.0 atleast until 2011, HP seems indifferent. In an announcement, HP stated that the following laptop models will be equipped with USB 3.0:

» Envy 15 notebook (with Core i7 processor and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5830 GPU)

» EliteBook 8540p and 8540w notebooks.

New laptop models are sure to incorporate USB 3.0 as Fujitsu and Asus are keen to walk on HP’s footsteps.
