Some hazy information regarding the minimum requirements for Windows Mobile 7 is coming from Eugene Pavlov, the Product Manager of HTC Russia. In one of his tweets today, he (seemed to) mention the minimum requirements for Windows Mobile 7. The screenshot of the tweet:

Although the specifications seem unbelievable, one cannot deny the fact that it is as per THE Project Manager at HTC Russia.

However, the twist here is that HTC Europe replied to Eldar Murtazin (Editor-in-chief, Mobile-review.com) in a tweet that Eugene is wrong. In fact, the minimum requirements for WM7 is much less compared to what is stated by him.

For some unknown reason, the HTC_Europe twitter account does not exist now.

Eldar Murtazin, then wrote on his blog (Russian content) about a response that he got related to the minimum configuration for WM7. The translated version is as below:

• Minimum ROM: 128 MB + 512 flash / Your friend (Eugene) stated 8 GB – very far from the true.
• Minimum RAM: 128 MB – recommended 256+
• CPU: 600mhz ARM v6+ / Your friend (Eugene) stated 1 GHz – very far from the true.
• FM receiver is not a requirement for WM7 – means that it is not needed for WM7 to function properly
• Compass is not a requirement for WM7 – means that it is recommended for the device to have a compass but it is not needed by the OS to function properly.
• 3.6” display – not a requirement because WM7 devices will be available in different display sizes.
• WVGA is not minimal resolution for WM7, there are versions available by Microsoft which are QVGA as well WM7 support al resolutions and it is up to the OEM which one they will use for their devices.
• G-Sensor (accelerometer) – not required but recommended.

So, I guess this is pretty much it! Minimum requirements for Windows Mobile 7 won’t be out of the blue but then that would again be a bold statement to make. Moreover, devices which will be released on Windows Mobile 7 later this year will be having these specifications so difference in opinions is justified.
