This is what the trade group called ‘The Wi-Fi Alliance’ has to say - “A new wireless specification called Wi-Fi Direct is all set to make its entry by mid 2010.” Formerly known as Wi-Fi peer-to-peer, this new specification will be a super advanced version of Bluetooth as we know it.
This specification does not require a wireless hub and any device certified as Wi-Fi Direct will be able to connect with each other seamlessly as it would do in case of Bluetooth. The Wi-Fi Alliance further states that, a software update will be made available for older devices so there is nothing to lose for those who already have Wi-Fi enabled devices sans the Wi-Fi Direct specification.
Electronic gadget makers will surely grab the opportunity to make every device Wi-Fi enabled to fully enjoy the power of Wi-Fi Direct. This ultimately means that in less than a year, you may be able to transfer files across multiple Wi-Fi enabled devices, transfer songs and videos to your portable player, record TV shows directly on your computer – all wirelessly. The possibilities are endless because this will forever change our modus oprendi to transfer digital data across devices.
It is now just a matter of sitting down and wait for the ‘Wireless Revolution’ to happen!
