Bharti Airtel is rolling up sleeves to extend its arm in providing WiFi connectivity all over India and aims at launching a whooping 1000 plus WiFi hotspots across the country. Starting next week, the biggest telecom giant in India will start rolling out WiFi hotspots in hundreds of cities, presumably the metros first.
Although the company executives stated that the WiFi hotspot facilities will be made available to only Airtel broadband subscribers initially, however, others are very unlikely to be left out in the longer run. Mr. Vikas Singh, CMO for Telemedia Services at Bharti Airtel said:
“Airtel WiFi hotspots will be strategically located at leading premium hotels, hospitals, chains of restaurants, coffee shops and corporate buildings that are the hub of corporate, community and social activities. For us, this is an initiative to increase customer stickiness and enhance average revenue per user (ARPU) of our broadband customer base.”
The focus here is ‘Free Internet’. Currently Tata Communications is already providing more than 500 WiFi hotspots across India albeit only to it’s subscribers. Bharti, on the other hand, claims to focus on the customers’ convenience to able to use free internet at restaurants, cafes and hotels as a value added service.
Conceptually, Bharti Airtel plan seems to be on the stronger side compared to the already available services provided by Tata. Tariffs and other plan details are yet to be declared. Be sure to check out this post for more details.

ISO image files are very useful when it comes to handling multiple files which need to be frequently shifted from one location to another. For example, Windows Setup files, large installers having multiple folder structures of programs like Adobe Photoshop, etc. It is always a wise to convert them into ISO image files and burn them into CDs and DVDs. There are many ISO image creating software available but what I prefer is a lightweight, low on resources application that can convert any folder or drive contents into an ISO image. ISOCreator is one that catches my eye.
ISOCreator is very simple to understand, thanks to its intuitive interface. Just give a name to the volume, enter the path to the desired folder, the output location and click ‘Start’.

Yes, I know it’s a long title but well that’s exactly what I am going to write about. First of all, Merry Christmas to all my readers and my apologies for no new posts for 4 days. It was in these holidays that I really needed to forward some of beautiful greetings that I received from my friends to my family members. I thought there should be a way to forward specific mails to a different email address in Gmail. It didn’t took me a while to figure it out. Here’s the small trick so you don’t have to goof around:
Gmail: Auto forward specific emails to a different email address
» Login to your Gmail account and click ‘Settings’ on the top-right.
» Click ‘Filters’ tab > ‘Create a new filter’ (located bottom-center).
» Now choose the criteria for which you wish to forward an incoming mail to different email address. Here the permutations and combinations are many. Fill in your desired criteria and click ‘Next Step »’ button.
» Here, check the ‘Forward it to:’ option and click ‘Create Filter’.
There you are! Obviously this filter won’t forward older emails falling into the criteria you specified.

Windows 7 has a very nice feature called ‘Jumplists’ which is otherwise very helpful but can get a little annoying at times. The main concern is that it not only displays the core functions of a program in the Windows 7 taskbar, it also displays a list of recent items stacked together, which is not so good on the privacy front. If you wish to remove the recent items from the Windows 7 jumplists, here’s a simple trick.
Removing recent items from Windows 7 jumplists
» Assuming C: as your Windows partition, navigate to:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
» Here you’ll find many AUTOMATICDESTINATIONS-MS files. Things are little tacky here. If you wish to delete only specific recent item entry, you need to open each file in a text editor to check which file corresponds to which recent item. Else you can delete all the files and get rid of recent items for all the programs at once.
No more recent items in jumplists!

Although it seems a noob thing, it’s actually not. Sometimes even the so-called professionals can’t figure out a simple thing. It so happened that I was goofing around on Facebook and unknowingly clicked the ‘Hide’ button on my friend’s news-feed only to find myself fumbling for settings to revert it back. Facebook’s settings control is extensive but ergonomically average. Finally I figured out a way to get it right. It was just a matter of a mere click on a link that easily manages to escape your sight.
» Select the ‘News Feed’ tab on the left pane, navigate to the bottom of your Facebook page and click on the ‘Edit Options’ link.
» A new window will appear where you can unhide people/pages by clicking the small cross mark against their name.

Recently I did a post on merging/deleting duplicate contacts in Windows Live Hotmail and now I am happy that even Gmail has incorporated this feature. So without much ado, here’s how you merge duplicate contacts in Gmail.
Merging duplicate contacts in Gmail:
1) In your Gmail account, click ‘Contacts’ in the left pane.
2) Now in the right pane, click the button that reads ‘Find duplicates’
3) It will take 15 seconds max (depends on your contact list) to detect dupes. When it finishes, it’ll display the duplicate contacts with the number of times they are duplicated. You can choose not to merge some contacts by unchecking them. Finally click ‘Merge’ button on top.
Merging duplicate contacts in Gmail was something that I really wished for. It’ll be like a dream come true for those who sync Gmail contacts with their smart phones frequently.
